Set Up Customer Groups for BigCommerce

As an experienced BigCommerce development company, we run into various customers who want to have an online store for the first time.  Their intent at all times is to ensure their store’s user interface is good.  Moreover, they want to make sure that their products are presented properly on the site.  However, what can be missed is the target marketing part of it.  In other words, BigCommerce designers will be made to focus on graphics and user interface and your BigCommerce developer will emphasize on ensuring that the code is bug-free.  However, you need expertise and guidance in target marketing too.  That’s where qualified BigCommerce experts come into the picture.

Optimize Your BigCommerce Store: A Guide to Setting Up Customer Groups

CUSTOMER GROUPS

BigCommerce, and other Ecommerce frameworks, let you set up customer groups.  This is the process through which you organize your customer base into isolated groups.  By doing so, you can adopt different strategies for different customer groups.  As an example, you can apply discounts or offer rewards to patrons or direct customers towards certain product categories.  Moreover, you can also allow or restrict access to some portions of the website.  If you are on the BigCommerce framework, here are some of the things you can do:

  • Differentiate between regular retail customers and wholesalers.
  • Set up status of tax exemption for some customers.
  • Offer discounts to certain customer groups.

BENEFITS OF CUSTOMER GROUPS

You are encouraged to talk to your BigCommerce development team about customer groups.  However, you need to be convinced about the benefits of the same before doing so.  These groups have the ability to serve your customers according to their specific needs.  Here are some of the other benefits of the process:

  • Identify the most and the least profitable customers of yours.
  • Provide special discounts to some customer groups.
  • Adjust your marketing efforts towards customers with the highest profitability.
  • Improve your customer service.
  • Stay on top of the latest shopping as well as purchase trends.
  • Gain an edge over your competition.
  • Segment customers on the basis of their location, lifestyle, behavior, and other factors.

HOW TO SET UP CUSTOMER GROUPS?

Setting up customer groups is a reasonably simple process.  Here are the steps involved in setting up customer groups for your BigCommerce store:

  1. Go to Customers > Customer groups
  2. On this page, click on the option ‘Create a Customer Group’
  3. Now you need to punch in a name for the group under the ‘Group Name’ field
  4. The next step is to identify and decide the access that various customers will have:
    1. Here you can restrict a particular group’s access.  You decide what a particular group can access and what it can’t.
    2. There is also an option to move all your new customers to this group.  You need to either check or uncheck this option.
  5. Once you have completed these steps, you are good to go ahead and save your changes.

This process will create the parent category.  If you need to create child categories under this, you need to click on the + symbol.

DISCOUNTS FOR CUSTOMER GROUPS

One of the important features of customer groups is that you can apply specific discounts to specific customer groups.  This customer group can have discount on a particular category, specific products, or even the entire website.  What you need to note is that coupons are separate.  Hence, if a customer has coupon; they will be able to get coupon discount on top of the category discount.

CUSTOMER GROUP FOR GUESTS

You will need to create a Guest customer group for all those customers who are not logged into your website.  You can set up Guest customer group after Customer Groups have been configured for your website:

  1. Go to Customers > Customer Groups
  2. Select a group from the dropdown menu that says Customer Group for Guests

DELETE A CUSTOMER GROUP

You can delete a customer group that you do not need.  You need to go to the Customers menu, and check the box that is next to the customer group you want to delete.  Now you click on the Trash icon and hit Okay to confirm.

BigCommerce Stencil Will Breathe New Life into an Online Storefront

With changes in technology, eCommerce sites must also ensure that the latest software’s and tools are upgraded to stay abreast with the competition. BigCommerce development is an ideal one for those looking to start an online venture and with its varied options in pricing, service and features there is something for all budgets.  Moreover, there are continuous innovations that help you, and your BigCommerce developers, stay ahead of the curve.  A case in point is the latest addition of the Stencil Framework to BigCommerce.  This new development promises to transform how BigCommerce development was done and how user friendly your online storefront could be.

BigCommerce’s Stencil is a theme engine that offers a chance for a BigCommerce developer to create beautiful eye catching storefronts for their sites. A BigCommerce developer can now offer clients a wide number of variations for each theme and the option of customising is also available without any coding.

Here are some of the reasons why you should switch to BigCommerce:

Efficiency

YAML formatting is available with this framework , this helps the site stay ahead of the competition

Flexibility

Stencil uses the Handlebar Theming Language and this allows your BigCommerce developer

the freedom and flexibility to incorporate changes as and when required.

Local Development

The functionality of an eCommerce site could have earlier been affected whenever changes needed to be made to the template. The framework that Stencil offers has a rapid local development feature which allows changes to the template without affecting it negatively in any way. An experienced BigCommerce Development company can achieve this with minimal requirement of coding.

Optimised Front End

JavaScript Event Hooks ensure that specific development options are available for the front end and can be worked on by an experienced BigCommerce Developer.

Browser Sync

This allows you to conduct testing and real time preview across all kinds of handheld and wireless devices as well as PC’s and Laptops.

Among the many benefits of Stencil is its ability to speed up the webpage by adding modern elements without affecting its functioning.   You will be surprised by the kind of speed that Stencil helps your page get, and that certainly helps you with search engine performance.  As an example; even if you decide to use default sample images that are available with the master theme with Stencil (cornerstone), you can still get your website to get a Google page speed of about 89 on desktops.  If you are conversant with Google page-speed standards, a speed of 89 is comfortably over the 85 mark that is required to qualify for ‘Excellent’ marking.

When it comes to theming and look of the website, the options available on BigCommerce’s theme store can be slightly limited.  However, you can always rely on PSDCenter.  It is one of the partners and has put in continuous work into ensuring consistent development as well as implementation of stencil themes.

What’s also interesting with Stencil is the fact that it allows you to have many different variations of a single theme.  So, you can have all these variations that you can use to target different audiences or use them for different purposes.  We live in the world of customization, and having customized websites for different target groups will go a long way.

All in all, Stencil is set to transform the way you did business.  Your online storefront can receive many great benefits by the use of this technology. Contact your BigCommerce developer to see if it is viable for you to switch to Stencil.

How Shopify Can Change the Way Your e-Business Is Run?

The first thing anyone with aspirations for an online business must do is to place one’s trust in a reputed e-commerce platform. While there are many options available for all kinds of content management, one needs a platform that offers a simple set up, full hosting and other practical features. Among the popular options is Shopify and with 5 plans to choose from, an eCommerce entrepreneur will be able to find one that strikes a balance between their budget and their requirements. Shopify is a web application that is dynamic and allows its clients to create a robust web store where anything from brands, products or services can be sold or marketed. Plans that start from as low as $9/month up to the Shopify Plus plan which is priced according to the features added on it. Additionally, there is a free app for Product reviews and its main features offer elegant as well as beautiful designs. Even those just starting out on an eCommerce venture can choose the Shopify Lite at $9/month which allows

  • Sales on Facebook
  • For someone with an existing site the buy now button can be easily integrated
  • Have fewer products initially to sell and
  • To support offline sales.

This is the reason why Shopify is becoming increasingly popular among Shopify web designers and developers.  Many Shopify web developers see this platform as a way of adding more value to their client’s projects.

Within Your Budget:

If you are concerned about your budget, Shopify offers a healthy discount of a 10% off on annual payment of fees and 20% off if the client buys a plan upfront for 2 years. Unlike other web applications that have a limit on the sales that can vary from plan to plan, Shopify has no such restriction and this is a major factor that makes Shopify so popular among the others.

Top-notch designs for your store:

Shopify also has more free themes compared to the others in the same industry and the designs as well the themes have a distinct edge over the competition. There is also the option to buy templates and a client can customise a template freely. This is possible using HTML/CSS or from the content management systems. Shopify users have found that the existing templates created by Shopify website designers can be customised easily by changing typeface and colours to create something that looks professionally done.

Easy Category & Product Set-up:

Setting up categories using Shopify is also easier than the others as the option to create categories depends on the criteria provided by the client. This is a very useful option especially for those with products that count into the thousands and the site owner as well as the shoppers will be able to use this for inventory and for searches. Upload all your product data using a CSV file and this can even be done for users migrating from platforms like EBay and Magneto.

Payment Gateway Integration:

Even with payment gateways Shopify offers its clients more than 70 options to choose from so a customer can pay from a gateway that he already has set up on his phone or laptop.

Excellent Blogging Platform:

You can create blogs easily with Shopify and this is so important to direct useful and potential customer traffic to one’s site. Categorising as well as tagging posts is easy with Shopify. If you already have an existing blog then importing posts is possible with Shopify’s Bloggerfeed App. The higher range app allows clients to send auto emails to browsers with abandoned carts. This has been useful to create a contact with clients and has also been known to recover the sale.

Remote Store Management:

There is an app that E-commerce owners can use to manage their online store remotely with Shopify. Shopify also offers around 1500 apps which offer a wide range of functionality for their clients to choose from. Even the Point of Sale hardware like barcode scanners, receipt printers, card readers etc are all easily available from the Shopify website itself.

The benefits of using Shopify are many and some of the most important ones were listed out. Talk to an expert from any reputed Shopify development company today to learn more about how this can simplify your eCommerce venture.

Automatically or Manually : Import Your Posts from Google Docs to WordPress

Creating a WordPress blog is one thing, but writing an effective post is completely another.  You can get a professional WordPress theme developer to create a great looking blog, but having content in there is what makes all the difference.  You might either write your company blogs yourself or get expert writers from a WordPress development company to do it for you.  In either case, there are very few people who write their posts directly on WordPress Editor.  The reason for that is that using WordPress Editor can be challenging, and it doesn’t offer as many options as some of the third party software tools do.  One of the more popular tools for writing WordPress blog posts is Google Docs.  In fact, we have seen various professional WordPress web developers recommending Google docs to their clients.  Google Docs is known to have some great functionalists.  However, the challenge might be for people to bring their Google docs posts over to WordPress.  In this blog posts, we shall talk about manual and automatic ways of doing so.

WHY GOOGLE DOCS?

First, let us talk about the reason why you would use Google Docs.  We mentioned earlier, experts tend to suggest this tool.  Here are some of the reasons why Google Docs outdoes WordPress editor:

  • Work is Safe:  The first important part to note is that your work is safe.  Google Docs has an auto-save program that makes sure that your work is not lost.  So strong is this auto-save program that you can lose internet connection or even close your browser, and you would still have your document/s saved.  WordPress Editor has an auto-save system too.  However, it is not exactly instant.  If you are good with coding, you can bring the auto-save duration down to 60 seconds.  Perhaps, you can ask your WordPress website developer to help you with that.  However, losing work worth 60 seconds can also be very annoying.  Also, there have been times when the auto-save feature hasn’t worked perfectly.
  • Comments:  When you are writing your document, you might have comments on the way.  Google Docs makes it easy to have those comments.  You can go back to those comments at the time of editing.
  • Collaboration:  You might be working with a writing team.  In that case, Google Docs makes it possible for you to easily collaborate with your team.  Once you have written your document, you can share it with others in the team and they can offer comments/suggestions.

MANUALLY MOVING POST OVER TO WORDPRESS EDITOR

Here are the steps that you will adopt to move your post over from Google Docs to WordPress Editor:

  1. Format in Google Docs:  Google Docs offers some sensational and handy formatting options.  You can have your H2 and H3 tags.  Moreover, you can also bold your text and do other things.  All of these formatting changes will smoothly transition over to the editor.
  2. Clean Up your HTML:  When you move over the post from Google Docs to WordPress Editor, your code will not be clean.  The post might look fine at the frontend, but the backend might be in some serious trouble.  An example of the same can be the <SPAN> tags you see around blocks of text.  It is not good for code cleanliness.  You can use tools like HTML Cleaner for the job.  All you need to do is paste your existing code and you will receive the cleaned code.
  3. Post Text to WordPress:  Code is cleaned up, now.  Hence, you can directly paste the text into the text tab of the editor.  When you switch to the visual tab, you will be able to see how your post looks.
  4. Add Images:  This is the final step in the process.  You pick images of your choice, and add them to your post.  You can use various tools to optimize and/or resize your images.

AUTOMATICALLY MOVING POST OVER TO WORDPRESS EDITOR

There is also an automatic way of transferring your post to the WordPress Editor.  There are multiple ways and tools that you can use.  One tool that has achieved some popularity is Wordable.  It allows you to export the entire post, and this includes even images.  Your post is quickly transferred over from Google Docs to WordPress.  The fact that images can be uploaded automatically is a great plus of the automated process.

This information shall help you in making sure that the process of transferring your blog post from Google Docs to WordPress Editor is hassle-free.
